DEPARTMENT OF RADIATION ONCOLOGY

Introduction:

Radiation Oncology or radiotherapy is an integral part of comprehensive cancer care. A wide range of cancers can be treated with radiation therapy. In most cases, radiation therapy is coupled with surgery or chemotherapy for a better clinical outcome. Radiation therapy is a non-invasive or minimally invasive modality that uses high energy X-rays that destroys the DNA of cancer cells and thus resulting in death or slowing the growth of cancer cells. Advancement in technology has dramatically improved the treatment accuracy by delivering higher doses to target volume and adequately sparing normal tissue.

The Department of Radiation Oncology became operational by starting out-patient department (OPD) consultation at All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Rajkot in February 2023, with the intent to provide state of art facilities to all oncological patients.
