Department Of Community & Family Medicine
VISION
To develop compassionate and competent Indian Medical Graduates who can practice community and family medicine with high moral values and empathy.
OBJECTIVE
- To empower the undergraduates and postgraduate medical students through practicebased teaching.
- To provide preventive, promotive & curative services to the community and families through RuralHealth Centre, Urban Health Centre and Out Patient Services.
- To conduct research for developing evidenced based practices and improving health status of community.
- To facilitate capacity building of medical and para-medical staff at various levels as per the need through multidisciplinary collaborations.
- To provide technical support for implementation and strengthening of National Health Program.
Academics:
The principals of Competency Based Medical Education (CBME) integrated in to the curriculum that is being taught by faculties with vast and diverse public health experience to ensure competent IMGs that can deliver healthcare to the families and communities as per their needs.
Health Services:
Students are posted at Urban Health Training Centre (UHTC) and Rural Health Training Centre (RHTC)as per the academic schedule. Students along with faculties,resident doctors and para-medical staff involved in regular field visits and various awareness activities as a part of outreach activities are organised regularly by the department, addressing local public health issues.
Model field practice areas will be developed at RHTC and UHTC as laboratory of community and family medicine with the motto of ‘Learning by Doing’&‘Doing by Learning’.
Research:
Department has expert faculties who are constantly documenting, analysing and disseminating scientific knowledge that is expanding the scope of epidemiology from etiologic research to evidence based practices through multilevel advanced analysis, intervention evaluation, implementation research in diverse areas of Public Health. Memorandum of Understanding will be signed with International and National institutions/bodies in the areas of mutual interests.
Department is providing technical support for the workshop on Research Methodology, Good Clinical Practices (GCP) and also faculties are involved in various committees like Institutional Ethical Committee (IEC), Research Review Board (RRB).
Capacity Building:
Departmental faculties are expert in various areas like medical education, operational research and national health programs who are supporting international organizations and national, state & district health departments. Department faculties also support the health system by engaging in capacity building of faculties, health program officials, medical doctors, health workers and para-medical staff.
Health System Strengthening:
Department will continue providing technical support for capacity building, monitoring and evaluation, advocacy and generation of evidences through research for strengthening the health system by working in close collaborations with stakeholders from international organizations and national/state/local government agencies.
